Research Activities

My PhD Proposal at DI-FCT/UNL, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. José Júlio Alferes, reflects my approach towards academic pursuit. Based on my current research interests and position at CENTRIA as Coordination Assistant of WGI5 of REWERSE, it is the main guideline for my research activity.

Being both a PhD candidate and a Coordination Assistant in WGI5 of Project Rewerse, naturally, I intend to develop my research activities in accordance to the goals defined for WGI5, focusing on the aspects of Evolution and Reactivity on the Semantic Web, namely:

  • investigate reactive behavior models that lead to evolution of data, rules and ontologies on the Web;
  • investigate communication models to support these reactive models;
  • investigate ways of dealing with inconsistency issues raised by global (and local) Evolution in an heterogeneous environment like the Web;
  • build prototypes to validate the relevance and expressiveness of the investigated reactive models, when trying to capture the evolutionary aspects of the Web embodied in the currently defined use-cases.

Given the coordination position of Lisbon in the WGI5, I hope to be able to develop these research activities in a such a way that synergies with other Working Groups (namely I1, I3 and I4) come into play in an efficient manner, thus improving the overall results of Project Rewerse, namely in terms of:

  • investigating the requirements of Rule Markup, Composition and Query Languages in the context of Evolution and Reactivity on a multi-language environment as the Web.

Finally, after 15 years working in the Industry, I cannot avoid some pragmatic expectations that I would like to keep in mind, without compromising my learning experience as a PhD candidate, namely trying to:

  • investigate ways of taking the results of Project Rewerse closer to the Industry in the form of restricted models and development tools/environments that may be used with the technology currently available in production systems.
